She painted
self-portraits
using a mirror. She used bright colours and depicted how she was feeling.
In some paintings, she looked sad and in others she smiled.

Following a serious accident, Kahlo underwent thirty-five operations but as she was recovering she began to paint.
She also used
animals in her works
such as monkeys, parrots, a hairless dog, and a deer.
